Tuesday Book Club
The next club meeting will be February 14 at 10 am. There are two books this month, When the Emperor was Divine and The Buddha in the Attic both by Julie Otsuka.
Summary:
When the Emperor was Divine: Julie Otsuka's commanding debut novel paints a portrait of the Japanese internment camps unlike any we have ever seen. With crystalline intensity and precision, Otsuka uses a single family to evoke the deracination--both physical and emotional--of a generation of Japanese Americans.
The Buddha in the Attic: Finalist for the 2011 National Book Award Julie Otsuka's long awaited follow-up to When the Emperor Was Divine is a tour de force of economy and precision, a novel that tells the story of a group of young women brought over from Japan to San Francisco as 'picture brides' nearly a century ago.
